Walking In Wisdom – I Wanna Be Wise

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 1 Corinthians 13:11

How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! Proverbs 16:16

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it costs all you have, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” 6 Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. 7 Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 3:1-9

Wisdom: God-given ability to discern what is right and just, apply knowledge with understanding, and lead with humility and righteousness.

Wisdom isn’t just knowing right from wrong—it’s choosing God over everything, every time.

Wisdom is not knowledge.

Wisdom is not age.

The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old. Proverbs 20:29

Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness. Proverbs 16:31

Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Proverbs 19:20

For by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory. Proverbs 24:6

Wisdom is not Faith.

Wisdom is Fear of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

Wisdom is Discernment.

The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning. Proverbs 14:8

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. Proverbs 3:7

Walking in wisdom is a journey, not a destination.

Wisdom is Seeing Things from God’s Perspective.

What is actually walking in Wisdom?

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:15-20

1. Seek to Walk Wisely

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, but his delight is in the law of the Lord. Psalm 1

2. Make the Best Use of Your Time.

3. Be filled with right things.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45)

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:30

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life. John 8:12
