Led by the Spirit

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14

Being led by the Spirit is a big deal.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. Romans 8:9

Voices that call you to follow them:

• Culture
• Tradition
• Ambition
• Fleshly pleasure
• Fear

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

The Spirit Leads Us

1) Into our true identity

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:16

a) The Spirit confirmed Jesus’ identity.

This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17

b) The Spirit confirms our identity.

º I was created –

So God created man in His own image… Gen. 1:27

º I am created perfect – fearfully and wonderfully made

º I am a saint

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ… To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse… Col. 1:1-2

2) Into the Truth about reality

When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth… John 16:13

a) I am loved unconditionally (Romans 8:38-39).

b) I am chosen (1 Peter 2:9).

3) To accomplish our witness and fulfill our ministry

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you… Acts 1:8

Being led by the Spirit allows us to show up in the right place, at the right time, with the right words.

4) In spite of Our Weaknesses

Romans 8:26; 2 Cor. 12:9

5) In our moment-to-moment daily life

Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

a) Make decisions (Acts 16:6-7)

b) Love others (Galatians 5:22-23)

c) Resist sin (Romans 8:13; Gal. 5:17)

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Rom. 8:13

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Galatians 5:17

Our Responsibility is to Set our Minds to Listen

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Rom. 8:5

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17
