Who Am I?

Who Am I?

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matt. 16:13,16

It is important for people to know who Jesus is.

And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” 25 Then they said to Him, “Who are You?” John 8:23-25

When you know who God is, He will tell you who you are.

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Matt. 16:18

It is important that you know who you are.

Your name determines your identity.

You are who God says you are and who He anoints you to be.

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God?…” 2 Sam.7:18

…Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.” 2 Sam. 7:8-9

Others tried to give David a different identity.

Satan wants to imprint his identity on your soul.

Later, David seemingly forgot who he was.

It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. 2 Sam. 11:1

Through Peter, Satan tried to turn Jesus from his mission.

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Mt. 16:22-23

Your greatest enemy is the voice within you who cautions you with human reasoning.

Knowing who you are frees you to serve.

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. John 13:3-5
