The Power of Thanksgiving

Psalm 100 & Psalm 150

Thanksgiving is not just a polite acknowledgment of blessings… but it is a profound recognition of the presence and power of God that permeates every aspect of our lives.

The scope of thanksgiving covers everything.

…in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thanksgiving is active, not passive.

So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?” Luke 17:17

It is thanksgiving, not thanksfeeling.

The power of thanksgiving:

1) Puts God and your problem in the right perspective.

O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; and in the night season, and am not silent. 3 But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. Ps. 22:2-3

2) Changes how you pray… your request is with thanksgiving.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7

3) Changes your heart and mindset from negative to positive.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. Phil. 4:8

  • True
  • Noble
  • Just
  • Pure
  • Lovely
  • Good Report
  • Virtue
  • Praiseworthy

Your problem is not a problem… it is an opportunity.

Jesus prayed to bless the 5 loaves & 2 fish – not multiply them.

And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Matt. 14:19-20

We are to pray the prayer of faith, not the prayer of fear.

…let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. James 4:14-15
