The Consequence of Words

Words are a matter of life or death.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. Prov. 18:21 AMPC

Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose. Prov. 18:21 MSG

Definition of life?

The property that allows something to take in nourishment, grow, adapt to their surroundings, and reproduce.

Five Kinds of Life

• Physical Life
• Emotional Life
• Mental Life
• Social Life
• Spiritual Life

Look for signs of life or death on the face of the one you are talking to.

We kill one word, one sentence, one conversation at a time.

Words can originate from God, our flesh, or the devil.

And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according… to the prince of the power of the air, …also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, 4 But God, …made us alive together with Christ …10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Eph. 2:1-5, 10

The Entrance of God’s Word gives life, not condemnation.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

What is your God Speak vocabulary?

…Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak. John 12:50

We need to purify the source of our words.

Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Matt. 12:33-34

14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. Phil. 2:14-16

These things ought not to be.

…the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. James 3:8-10

Words of Life produce hope, not condemnation.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:17

Make preparation before you speak.

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Gal. 6:1

• Prepare your heart – spiritual heart of love and humility
• Examine your motive – you want their ultimate good
• Examine your approach – gentleness, also tempted
• Determine the goal of the conversation – restoration
• Prepare your words – praise, hope

Careless attention to our words releases Hell fire into our lives.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. James 3:5-6
