Remember Three Things Pt. 2

Posted on 11 Sep 2022, Speaker: Ken Miles
Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father  1 Thess. 1:3

We are to remember three things without ceasing:

  1. Work – Significant achievement
  2. Labour – Physical or mental exertion that is difficult and exhausting
  3. Patience – exhibiting calm endurance in the midst of pain, difficulty, provocation and annoyance.

Remember to live your life for a significant purpose, enduring the exhaustion and frustration of the endeavour while maintaining an inner peace and outward composure.
It is a work of faith, a labor of love and patience of hope.

Three Points of Focus

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three … 1 Cor. 13:13

1. Work of Faith

Significant achievements are only produced by faith.
Faith: firm belief and trust in the authority and ability of another, rather than upon one’s own knowledge, reason, or judgment

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. James 2:17-18

You cannot produce eternal achievement apart from faith.

2. Labour of Love

Sacrificial efforts are only produced by love.
Love: giving unselfishly to the needs of others without desiring personal recognition or reward

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. 1 Cor. 13:3-8. & NLV & ESV

You cannot sustain sacrificial effort apart from love.

3. Patience of Hope

True patience is only produced by hope.
Hope: the confident expectation that things are going to get better

For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Rom. 8:24-25
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God… Ps 42:5

You cannot sustain patience apart from hope.
