Press Through

Posted on 05 Feb 2023, Speaker: Ken Miles

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. 12:1-2

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. Hebrews 6:15

To press through, we need to endure.

Things we need to Endure:

  • Temptation

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.  James 1:12

  • Hardship

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:3

And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” 1 Sam. 17:29

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. James 5:11

Hardship and suffering are a normal part of a soldier’s life.

Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering. 33 Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things. 34 You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever. 35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. 37 “For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. 38 And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away. 39 But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved. Hebrews 10:32-39 (NLT)

  • Undeserved Suffering

For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 1 Peter 2:19

  • Persecution

But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Matthew 13:20-21

Your inward core determines your outward endurance.

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. Hebrews 12:3.

  • Chastening

If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? Hebrews 12:7

Can your heart endure, or can your hands remain strong, in the days when I shall deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken, and will do it. Ezekiel 22:14

  • Not Seeing the Results when Expected

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. Hebrews 11:27

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. Heb. 11:1-2

Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.  Hosea 6:3 ESV

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:58
